Pakistan, on Tuesday (07/12/2011) condemned the assassination of Afghan President Hamid Karzai's brother as an act of cowardice.
Although the relationship between the two neighbors have been strained due to allegations of cross-border attacks in recent weeks, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Karzai has called them to convey his condolences.
Gilani's office said he expressed his shock and sadness in connection with the murder of Ahmed Wali Karzai.
Karzai's brother, who has long been accused of involvement in acts of corruption and drug trafficking in Afghanistan, is an important ally of the president of Afghanistan and the US-led NATO forces in the south of the country, the headquarters of Taliban militants.
Pakistan is a key ally of the Taliban regime of Afghanistan until the country sided with the U.S., who launched attacks on Afghanistan, launched after 11 September 2001 attacks in the United States and ultimately led Karzai to the seat of government.
